Aquaforest Marine Salt: Reef, Sea & Probiotic Blends

S alt is such a basic component of our reef tanks and amazingly, for something that seems so simple, choosing the right salt for our system is one of the hardest decisions we will make.  The sheer number of competing brands available along with the plethora of positive and negative anecdotal information makes it almost an impossible decision.

With this knowledge, Aquaforest has taken great lengths to ensure maximum transparency when it comes to information about their products and especially their core product, Aquaforest Sea Salt, Aquaforest Reef Salt and one of the most popular salts in the market, Aquaforest Probiotic Salt.

Aquaforest salt and the entire line of Aquaforest products are manufactured in the EU under very strict laboratory conditions.  As a manufacturer, they adhere to a set of water parameters that over many years of testing, Aquaforest has determined to be optimal for coral growth and color.

Aquaforest relies on highly qualified laboratory staff with state of the art equipment including one of most advanced and sophisticated ICP machines on the market.  Aquaforest lab staff works very closely in conjunction with top Biology and Chemistry specialist at Jagiellonian University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in central Europe and a member of the Coimbria Group whose membership has included other universities like the University of Cambridge and Oxford University.

To ensure maximum quality, Aquaforest includes a comprehensive ICP test analysis with every batch of salt prepared.  This ensures that all salts are within chemicals range and also rules out the presence of contaminants.  These same results are published online and can be easily accessed by going to the Aquaforest website and entering the code included with every salt bucket.

Aquaforest believes that the true test to a products success is real life implementation.  All Aquaforest products are developed and tested at the Aquaforest Coral Farm.

Aquaforest staff constantly takes water samples from the Coral Farm tanks and conducts ICP analysis which in turn allows Aquaforest to create quality and reliable products.

Aquaforest has three different types of fully synthetic salts free of phosphates and nitrates formulated to fulfill specific marine system requirements:

Aquaforest Sea Salt

Aquaforest Sea Salt is a fully synthetic salt primarily used in Fish Only with Live Rock systems.  The use of high quality components allows for quick, clear mixing and immediate use.  Every batch of Aquaforest Sea Salt is chemically balanced to the following levels:

  • Magnesium between 1200 and 1300 mg/l
  • Calcium between 360 and 400 mg/l
  • Potassium between 300 and 350 mg/l
  • Alkalinity between 8 and 9 dKH
  • pH between 8 and 8.2

Preparing Aquaforest Sea Salt is fairly simple.  Just add to RODI water and mix until the salt is fully dissolved and the solution is clear. Test to ensure both salinity and temperature are the same as your main system.  Once the salt has been mixed and dissolved, it should be used within 5 days.

Aquaforest Reef Salt

Aquaforest Reef Salt is a chemically balanced synthetic salt specially formulated for demanding Reef Tank systems.  It closely resembles natural seawater parameters found on ocean reefs as well as micro and macronutrients to fulfill the demand of corals for proper growth and pigmentation.

Every batch of salt is elementally balanced to the following levels:

  • Calcium between 410 and 430 mg/l
  • Magnesium between 1300 and 1360 mg/l
  • Potassium between 360 and 380 mg/l
  • pH between 8 and 8.2
  • Alkalinity between 7.4 and 8.2 dKH.
  • Chlorine between 19000 and 19500 mg/l
  • Sulfur between 810 and 990 mg/l
  • Iron between 1.2 and 1.3 mg/l
  • Strontium between 7.2 and 8.8 mg/l

Preparing Aquaforest Reef Salt is fairly simple.  Just add to RODI water and mix until the salt is fully dissolved and the solution is clear. Test to ensure both salinity and temperature are the same as your main system.  Once the salt has been mixed and dissolved, it should be used within 5 days.

Aquaforest Probiotic Salt

Aquaforest Probiotic Salt is like no other salt on the market.  It is specially formulated to stimulate the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and fauna.  It includes probiotic bacteria that greatly reduces phosphates and nitrates and at the same time creates the optimal environment for colorful and thriving corals.

Aquaforest Probiotic Salt is chemically balanced to the following levels:

  • Calcium between 410 and 430 mg/l
  • Magnesium between 1300 and 1360 mg/l
  • Potassium between 360 and 380 mg/l
  • pH between 8 and 8.2
  • Alkalinity between 7.4 and 8.2 dKH
  • Chlorine between 19000 and 19500 mg/l
  • Sulfur between 810 and 990 mg/l
  • Iron between 1.2and 1.3 mg/l
  • Strontium between 7.4 and 8.8 mg/l

Preparing Aquaforest Probiotic Salt is fairly simple.  Just add to RODI water and mix until the salt is fully dissolved and the solution is clear. For Salinity of 33 ppt, you can dissolve about 2.2lbs of salt into 7 gallons of RODI water.  Test to ensure both salinity and temperature are the same as your main system.  Once the salt has been mixed and dissolved, it should be used within 24 hours.

WARNING:

Aquaforest Probiotic Salt should not be used in conjunction with Ozone.  Also, due to the probiotic bacteria included with the salt, we recommend that you keep your system’s Alkalinity between 6.5 and 8 dKH as higher values may have negative effect on some corals.
